Preventing: Knowledge as the First Defense
Where abuse thrives, knowledge is lacking
A member's greatest vulnerability is not economic or legal, but a lack of knowledge. An abuse of power by a Board of Directors thrives on silence and apathy—conditions that almost always stem from a poor awareness of one's own rights and of the true nature of the cooperative model. A member who does not know their rights is a member who cannot defend them. A member who forgets that the cooperative belongs to them, and not to the directors, is a member who has already ceded their power.
This is why preventive and educational action is the first and most important pillar of the OETC's strategy. We firmly believe that the most effective way to combat mismanagement is to prevent it, by arming every member with the cultural and informational tools needed to be an active participant and a vigilant overseer. Our goal is to transform the membership base from a passive mass into a conscious social body, the first and most impassable bulwark against any attempt at abuse.
Disseminating Culture and Awareness
Our website and communication channels are at the heart of our information efforts. We don't just provide news; we create and distribute resources designed to be clear, practical, and accessible to all.
-
We explain, in simple language, the fundamental rights of members (right of inspection, right to vote, access to documents) and how to exercise them in practice.
-
We publish analyses of real cases (in anonymous form), major court rulings, and best governance practices at the European level to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date framework.
-
We create checklists and tools that enable each member to "measure" the governance health of their own cooperative and to recognize early warning signs.
Technology as a Lever for Change
We are convinced that technology is a fundamental ally in democratizing access to knowledge. The advent of artificial intelligence, in particular, is radically changing what we can do for members across Europe. We are using it in three strategic ways.
-
AI allows us to analyze a huge amount of information (statutes, regulations, balance sheets) from different countries more quickly and efficiently, giving us an increasingly accurate European overview and enabling us to identify trends and recurring problems.
-
Thanks to the latest machine translation technologies, we are able to make our content accessible to every European member in their native language, ensuring that no one is excluded for linguistic reasons.
-
Our most innovative commitment is to use AI to create radically new and more accessible information formats. We are developing interactive audio guides, podcasts and "voice agents" with which members can interact to ask questions about their rights. These tools make it possible to understand complex topics in a simple and intuitive way, transforming learning from an effort into an engaging experience.
